Membership

The Trail Riders started in 1954 and have established many fine traditions in which you will be able to participate. We are able to ride on many of the historic ranches in Santa Barbara County and surrounding counties because of our fine reputation which is based on respecting the ranch, its history, and our hosts, and always leaving a clean camp. We’re proud of our organization, our reputation and our traditions. This pride is built upon the unselfish contributions and full participation of each and every Member and Green Scarf.

Guests and Green Scarves

To become a Trail Rider, you must first come as a sponsored Guest on one ride and then participate as a sponsored Green Scarf for 3 rides. Green Scarfs are sponsored by current Trail Riders. Sponsors must attend the rides and are responsible for their Green Scarves and Guests. After fulfilling the 3 ride requirement, Green Scarves then apply for Membership to the Trail Riders Board of Directors before being accepted.

Remember, every Trail Rider has been a Green Scarf, but not every Green Scarf will become a Trail Rider. It all depends on you. Your attitude, horsemanship, etiquette, and social skills are critical and will be evaluated by everyone and will eventually determine whether you have what it takes to be a Santa Barbara Trail Rider.
